Vocabulary Spelling City Review

I was recently given a free trial of Spelling City to try out in our homeschool. We’ve been using it in conjunction with our spelling words and have had a lot of fun with this program. It’s been a great way to practice spelling words in a creative way. But Spelling City isn’t just for spelling, there are a ton of other features that I am discovering as well. It also teaches vocabulary and definitions and a whole bunch of other language arts skills. It can be used for all levels of learners, too.
On Vocabulary and Spelling City, you have the choice of entering in your own spelling words and vocabulary, or using their pre-written lists.  They have sight word lists for all different levels, and lots of vocab lists including terms from geography, math, science, phonics, social studies…
- Spelling/Vocab test
- Teach Me- this teaches the word, and definition
- Flash Cards- these help them practice the word and the definition
- Play a Game
There are lots of fun games that help your child practice their words for the week. Some of the games include: hangman, unscramble, audio word match, missing letter, sentence unscramble, and crossword puzzles.
They also have handwriting writing and vocabulary practice, sentence and paragraph writing that is very useful, too. There are videos that you and your kids can watch to help teach different concepts as well.
We have been working through some weekly spelling lists already and this was a good way to change things up and make spelling more fun. My son was really excited to try out the games! I love having ways to make learning more fun and this definitely did that for us! I am also planning on using more than just the spelling features- I love that they have all of the same options for vocabulary.

Try it out for yourself. Spelling City only costs $34.95 for a full year for up to 5 students. I think this is a really great price considering all that it offers! I would say it is worth the cost to help make learning spelling more fun.
