KinderBach

We have had the privilege to review KinderBach at our home this past month.  I have to tell you that my kids are OBSESSED with this program.  It is a piano teaching program for young kids (ages 3-7) that has these little videos that teach the kids about beginning musical elements.  They also have coloring pages and workbook downloads to go along with the program.

My kids are 5 and 7 and both really love it.  When we first got it, my kids did about 10 lessons in one sitting.  They continue to love doing it regularly as part of our school. The lessons are meant to be done with a piano or keyboard.   There are 6 levels and each level has 10 weeks of lessons each week has 4 lessons. The lessons are short videos that are 1-5 minutes long.   So, these can really last you for a long time- it’s over 240 sessions of videos.

There are a few different format options- online lessons, DVD’s and they have recently come out with an App for the iPad or iPhone.  We reviewed the online lessons, but others on the Crew have reviewed the App.  The App is free to download- and even has a couple of free lessons. It includes a keyboard on the screen.  It is lots of fun!  You can also sample a few lessons on the KinderBach website for free.

The program has six areas of music development:

1. Ear or listening skills (high/low, loud/quiet, rhythm…)
2. Sight or Note Reading (letter names, notes on staff, patterns, chord symbols)
3. Rhythm (beat value and rhythm, placement of notes in time signature)
4. Hand Position or Technique (playing the piano, finger numbers)
5. Singing
6. Composition (creating their own music)

The video lessons are really fun and interactive.  Karri Gregor is the teacher & does a great job getting my kids to participate. The workbook/coloring pages include activities to go along with the lessons to help reinforce the concepts.

There are cute characters (the Piano Pals) that you meet in the videos to help teach the concepts through stories.  Dodi is the donkey.  His house is built where there are 2 black keys.  There are also some fun little cards the help the kids to identify the piano keys.  You can print and color them and place them on your keyboard to show where Dodi’s house is. Then there are little songs to play along and play the keys of Dodi’s house.  I loved this!  There is also a fun one for the train station on the three black keys.  I think it really helps the kids identify the keys.

Pricing:  Kinderbach’s online program costs $19.99 a month, billed monthly, or $7.99 a month, billed annually as one $95.88 payment. The app is available to try as a free download. The full app program that the Crew tried out costs $26.99.  It is an incredible value for all that you get.

I have a great discount code for you, too!  It gives you 30% off any order.
