History, Geography and Maps, Oh My!

I have this image in my mind of how I want our history, geography and religion studies to work.  I want all of it to flow together seamlessly with books, projects, art, etc. I worked so hard on it last year.  We studied the first volume of Story of the World, by Susan Wise Bauer and I worked so hard to find resources to go along with it to make it work the way I envisioned it. We also read some of  E.H. Gombrich’s A Little History of the World. Both of these books are wonderful, but it was a lot of work to keep it all up.  I need a little more organization- ideas planned out for me.

Map Trek is an atlas plus historical outline maps that allow you to teach geography alongside history. This is a resource that any homeschool parent can use, even if you don’t remember a thing from your history or geography classes in public school, like me!  They have historical maps from all different time periods, wars, migrations, etc.  There are full color teacher maps, and blank maps for labeling- they even have some with just the latitude/longitude lines for kids to draw in or trace themselves- this is something we’ve had fun with!  Included are lessons on how to use them with all different grade levels- with activity ideas written write in there, and a glossary of terms.  They are broken down into 3 levels – Level A (grades 1-4), Level B (grades 5-8) and Level C (grades 9-12).  It is all in chronological history so it works so well with any history program written chronologically- which many are.  the e-book are all in PDF format and are easily printable- you can print them all, or just print them as you need them for a lesson.

I feel like we have only touched the surface with all of the resources that are available in these e-books.  We will use it for years to come.  It is, in my opinion well worth the purchase price.  Since we are just finishing up our Ancient history year, that is the one that I really spent time in, but I can’t wait to use the rest of the volumes and continue to increase my knowledge of world history and geography.  It’s an incredible addition to our homeschool library!

One thing that impressed me so much- and it is offered for free on their site is their Curriculum Integration Guides.  they have taken many of the common homeschool history programs and coordinated the lessons and maps with the lessons in the different programs. I am so excited for this!  They have it for Story of the World, A Child’s History of the World, A History of US, My Father’s World, TruthQuest, Ambleside Online, and many more! Plus, they are taking requests to add in any of your favorite history programs…

Want to just check it out first?  They offer a free 32 page sample download on their web page, too.  Just fill in the info on their home page.

There are lots of different purchase options available.  You can download the individual e-book volumes for $14.95 each, or you can download the complete set for $47- saving over $30.  They also offer CD-Rom or hardcover book options on their site.
