Toilet paper rolls are such a fun and versatile craft supply! This week we used them to make a rainforest related craft. Check out this use little iguana made from toilet paper rolls!!
Toilet Paper Roll Iguana Craft

This idea was found in the book Crafts for Kids Who Are Wild About Rainforests, by Kathy Ross.

To Make the Toilet Paper Roll Iguana:

2 toilet paper roll tubes and one paper towel tube.
Cardboard for the legs, we used a piece of a box from crackers
Green paint
Orange Construction paper
Cut a slit 3 inches long in one of the toilet paper rolls- almost all the way to the end.  Overlap the edges making a cone shape and tape it together with a piece of masking tape.  This will be the iguana head.  on the other end of the head, cut a tiny slit so that the ends will slightly overlap, making it fit inside the other toilet paper roll.  Tape the two tubes together. This will be the head and body of the iguana.
Cut a slit in the paper towel tube like you did on the first toilet paper tube.  Cut almost all the way down, leaving just one inch at the end un-cut. Overlap the edges and tape into a cone shape.  This will be the iguana tail. Again, on the other end, cut a small slit to help it fit into the un-cut t.p. tube.
Here is the order you will assemble the pieces:

Fit them inside each other and tape together with masking tape.
Cut 4 legs out of cardboard and glue onto the iguana:
Decorate:  We painted it green.  Then made eyes and a fringe piece to glue onto the back of the iguana out of orange construction paper.
