We Had a Science-Filled Weekend!

We did some fun science experiments last weekend and wanted to share them with you!

Wanna make one of these?

Then all you need is one of these:

and some of this:

We had a lot of fun!

I wish I took this picture a milli-second later, that little pinch from my little girl POPPED the egg. You need to handle it very carefully!

But it was cool, the skin was like rubber. I remember finding snake and crocodile eggs when I was a little girl, the shell felt just like that!

All you do is carefully put an egg into a cup and cover it with white vinegar. After 24 hours, replace the vinegar with fresh vinegar, then leave it for a few more days (about a week). and be amazed! You have to handle your egg very carefully...I know I already mentioned that, but it is important!

One of our other experiments did not quite take a week...more like 2 minutes! it is fun and it requires items that I bet you already have in your house! (unless you are lactose intolerant?)

The outcome:

This picture does not do it justice...you seriously have to try this one. My kids wanted to do it over and over and over...you get the idea.

How to do it:
Pour milk onto a plate with lips or very shallow bowl. place 3-4 drops, each a different color, of food coloring close together in the center of the plate. Then, put a q-tip into the center. What happens?
Then get another q-tip covered in dish soap and try putting it in the center again. What happens now? even I had to get my own plate and try for myself...SO COOL!!!

  1. How funny, we did the same egg experiment this week! My preschooler was really impressed!

We left the egg in the same vinegar for only 2 days and instead of peeling off, like it looks like your shell did, ours kind of wiped off in flakes.

  4. Those are both really fun to do. I'm going to try them again when we get back to flying creatures again.

Thanks for linking to Science Sunday!
